Colonel David C. Petersen’s military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advance Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course and the National War College located at Fort McNair in Washington D.C.

Colonel Petersen was drafted into the United States Army in June 1972 as an engineer, served three and a half years on active duty and went directly into the Nebraska Army National Guard in March of 1976. He attended Nebraska State OCS in 1978 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1979. He served in the following assignments: Red Eye Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer for Combat Support Company, 2-134 IN; Company Commander for Charlie Company 1-195 Armor; Assistant S-3 for HHC 67th Brigade; Assistant Training officer, Facility Manager, Training Site Commander, Assistant Director of Facilities, Director of Maintenance and Director of Facilities for HQ STARC; J-3 for Joint Force Headquarters; Senior LNO from Combined Forces Command Afghanistan to Central Command’s Joint Intelligence Operations Center; Senior Regional Police Advisor – East to a Two Star Afghan Police General in Gardez Afghanistan; and Deputy Chief of Staff for the Joint Staff – Nebraska. COL Petersen is currently assigned full time as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.  His current military assignment is Commander, 67th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, NEARNG

Colonel Petersen was born April 16, 1952 in Superior, Nebraska. He graduated from Ruskin High School, Ruskin, Nebraska in 1971. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1979 and a Masters Degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 2001. Colonel Petersen and his wife, Karen, have two sons, Kaj and Seth; daughter-in-law, Michara; and granddaughter Skylar and Antaras. The Petersen’s live in Lincoln, Nebraska.
